Can We Advance And Help Build The Kingdom Of God?

With so much happening in our personal lives, it can be hard to just maintain our own spiritual relationship with God. It’s understandable that many might find it difficult to share the good news of the gospel with friends and family. Although, for many, it’s a challenge, now more than ever the world needs more people who will say to themselves, how can I help build the Kingdom Of God?

As a general rule, sharing the gospel will build the Kingdom Of God more effectively than any other method. We as citizens of God’s Kingdom should take every opportunity to speak about the good news of the Gospel. There are many ways to evangelize; however, the effectiveness of person-to-person witnessing can never be overstated.

I must acknowledge that everyone who accepts Jesus into their lives doesn’t automatically become a Kingdom-building machine. Many people are introverts and don’t really enjoy constantly reaching out and talking to people. With that in mind, I want to explore what it means to build the Kingdom Of God and some additional ways of doing just that, let’s get started…

What Does It Mean To Build The Kingdom Of God?

In Matthew 9:35-38 we read this, “And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

What does it mean to build the Kingdom Of God? Here we find Jesus and His disciples ministering as they normally did but this time Jesus took note of the large crowd and took the occasion to teach the disciples the importance of evangelism. Everyone complains about the bad in the world but not many people get off the sidelines to get their hands dirty. Jesus was pointing out that the Kingdom Of God needs workers. People who will sacrifice their own comfort to make a difference in this world for God.

Many of us have gotten comfortable with just going to church every Sunday and that’s it. We don’t talk to anyone, we don’t pray with anyone, we are just comfortable with attending church. Many of us need to just be honest and ask ourselves, when is the last time that the words Jesus Christ pasted over our lips in a conversation with someone? We need to ask, are we talking to people about Jesus? Remember what Jesus said, the harvest is plentiful but the labors are few, a lot of work but not enough workers.

Do We Build The Kingdom Of God?

Do we build the Kingdom Of God? Indeed we do and it doesn’t have to always be talking to people. Some people choose to hand out materials in their spare time or while they’re in transit. Some choose to share the gospel and encouraging materials with their online community. There’re many ways to get the gospel to the people who desperately need it, but the key is we need to be reaching out. It’s very important because nothing will change if people don’t change and people can’t change without the transforming power of God.

In Mark 16:14 after Jesus had risen from the dead on the third day, He appears to His disciples and rebuked them for their unbelief. Jesus then gave them, what we now know to be The Great Commission. The 15th verse says, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation”.

The Warning And Urgency To Build The Kingdom Of God, The Talents

Another important parable that I think every Christian should know and pay very close attention to is the parable of the talents in Mattew 25:13-30. This is the parable where Jesus starts off with a warning in the 13th verse, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour”. He was speaking of His return and the end of the age. Following this warning, He tells a parable of a man who, before he was to take a long journey, calls his servants and entrusted his property to them. In the 15th verse, it says, “To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away”.

As the parable continues the servant that received five talents invested his talents and gained five additional talents. The servant that received two talents was also able to double his two talents and now had four. The servant that received one talent did nothing at all with his talent to increase it and was satisfied with just maintaining the one talent that he had. Eventually, the master of those servants returned and settled his accounts with them. You’re welcome to read the entire text but I’ll just focus on the highlights here.

To the two servants that invested their talents and actually did something with them the master was extremely happy, but the servant with the one talent who did nothing with it was called wicked and lazy. Let’s take a close look at the master’s response to the servant that did nothing in Matthew 25:26-30, But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming, I should have received what was my own with interest.

So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth“.

You see my friends once we’ve become citizens of the Kingdom Of God, He expects us to produce a return on His investment in us. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven”. Let your light shine and build the Kingdom Of God and He will say to you, “well-done good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your master”
