Is The Power Of God Coming? Does The Bible Tell Us?

This is a common question and with good reason. People are searching for the power to overcome all of the things they face day to day. Everyone faces different challenges but the need for a solution to our problems is universal. Some try to meet their need themselves, others recognize that they need God’s help. These are the people who are really searching and wondering, is the Power Of God Coming at some point?

The Power Of God comes to those who surrender and submit to Him and His salvation plan. At the point of salvation, every Christian is born again and has become a joint heir with Christ to the throne of God, which makes them entitled to all that belongs to God including His Power.

God wants us to have His Power! He wants us to have dominion and to rule in righteousness on the earth. The Power Of God is not coming but rather is readily available to anyone who reaches out by faith and takes it. Let’s take a closer look at how it all works…

The Infilling Power Of God

Throughout the entire Bible, we see examples of God’s Power in action, both in the Old and New Testaments. The one common theme is that whenever we see man demonstrate God’s Power it’s always when the Spirit Of God has come on or in him. One great example of this was Samson in Judges 15:14-15, “And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands. And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith”.

Now in the Old Testament like in this case with Samson, the Holy Spirit of God would visit man for a time but did not stay within him. We see in many instances that God’s Spirit would intervene and perform some of the most unbelievable miracles ever seen and leave the person afterward. In the New Testament after The Lord Jesus rose from the dead, it allowed for the Spirit Of God to actually come and live within those who through faith would believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord. Jesus promised His disciples that He would send the comforter or the Spirit to come and live in them.

This is what Jesus meant in John 14:23, “If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him”. Once we are saved through faith in Jesus the Spirit Of God comes to live in us. That same Spirit gives us power over sin death and the devil.

How To Maximize God’s Power In Your Life

For a long time, I’ve been thinking on and studying why we don’t see the demonstration of God’s Power the way it happened in the Bible. What’s stopping us from maximizing God’s Power in our lives today? Why haven’t we seen the dead raised? Why are so many people wearing glasses if God is a healer? Why are there so many wheelchairs? After much studying and prayer, I’ve come to realize that we have become too far removed from God and the things of God. We are too distracted by other things. There are people who actually get angry if a church service is too long. We simply don’t live the way the people did in biblical times.

In biblical times there were no devices like phones TV’s and computers distracting people. People didn’t spend all day watching TV. There’s also a lack of fear and reverence for God. Many people have turned their backs on God and His Word because it doesn’t allow them to live the life of sin that they love. Satan has gained a foothold on humanity, and we know this because humanity constantly questions the authority of God and the Bible. From time to time God reminds us of our need for Him, Covid 19 was one of those reminders.

I say all of that to say if we truly want to experience the Power Of God and maximize its power in our lives it has to start with humility. Many people think that because they dismiss God’s Word as untrue it will excuse them from the judgment of God. We as human beings don’t have the right to thumb our noses at the God who created everything. It’s not possible to have or experience God’s Power without humility. In James 4:6 these words are recorded, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Anyone who wants to maximize or even experience the Power Of God must be humble, obedient, and have an attitude of servitude. Anyone who gets those three things right will have no limits as it relates to maximizing the Power Of God in their lives.

Edifying Power With Purpose Has Come

Regardless of whether you’ve experienced the Power Of God or not there’s one thing that will remain true, God gives His Power for the purposes of edifying people, bringing glory to Himself, and advancing His Kingdom in this world. When we understand that, we can then approach our ministry with that in mind. We should be constantly asking ourselves how can I serve someone today for the Kingdom Of God? How can God be glorified as a result of my life today? What part can I play today to advance the Kingdom Of God today?

Our God is great and is happy to equip us with His Power to be effective instruments for righteousness. We are living in a hurting world that desperately needs God’s intervention. This is what Jesus meant in Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord”.

One of the best things we could observe about Jesus is that He didn’t just preach but He also demonstrated how we are supposed to conduct ourselves here on earth while doing God’s work.
