Does God Give Us Power? How Can We Access It?

There are many people who live among us who struggle on a daily basis with different issues. For some, it’s depression, loneliness, and anxiety, for others it’s drugs, alcohol, or anger. Regardless of the vice many of us are or have been looking for the power to overcome our struggles. The world has become dark and there are tons of people desperately asking the question, does God give us power?

God gives power to those who submit to His salvation plan and believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. God’s Power is reserved and intended for those who engage in spiritual warfare with the purpose of advancing the Kingdom Of God while defeating the efforts of the devil.

The Bible speaks of and shows examples of God’s Power In many places. We are going to explore some of these examples to see how we can incorporate and access God’s Power in our own lives, let’s get started…

What Does It Mean To Have The Power Of God?

Living our busy day-to-day lives come with all types of challenges, particularly for those who are Christian. We know we need the Power Of God to continue through the hustle and bustle but it’s not always clear what it means to have the Power Of God.

As a general rule what it means to have the Power of God is that we have embraced, by faith His promise to endow us with His power to further Kingdom goals. It also means that we have committed to being instruments for righteousness’ sake to break the bonds of the enemy and to set the captive free.

In Luke 9:1 these words are recorded, “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the Kingdom Of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them”.

A couple of things I want to point out about this verse, first without Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection there is no power available to man. Apart from the righteousness of The Lord Jesus Christ humanity is an offense to God because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve. Isaiah 64:6 says, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf;
and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away”.
We are completely lost and without eternal hope without submission to and faith in the finished work of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Secondly, the Power Of God is with purpose. The verse says, “and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the Kingdom Of God. Jesus gave them power and marching orders. God will give us power when we join His army to advance His agenda in this world. That same power will also give us personal victory over the struggles and challenges we face within ourselves when we give them to Him in total faith. That’s what it means to have the power of God.

How Do We Receive The Power Of God?

So it’s no secret that there’re many religions and beliefs in the world today. Everybody has a formula for getting to heaven, pleasing God, understanding God’s Word, and everything else. Naturally, this causes confusion which is exactly what the devil wants. As a result of this scores of people are left asking, how do we receive the Power Of God?

As a whole, we receive the Power Of God through submission to and faith in Him and His word. When we demonstrate faith in God and His Word, God is pleased with us, which in turn allows us to receive an abundant amount of His Spirit and Power.

Let’s talk about submission. In James 4:6 the Bible says, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. The way up with God is down on our knees. The more time we spend on our knees in humble submission, the more power we will receive from God. God doesn’t give us power for the sake of just giving us power. God gives us the power to overcome sin and accomplish His will on earth. God’s Power is specifically for service and liberation and it’s not until this understanding gets deep down into our hearts that we will be able to access His Power.

How Does God’s Power Work In Us?

God’s Power works in us in many different ways, for we know that the mystery of godliness is great. As we endeavor to do God’s work on the earth there will be times when we might not have the clearest understanding of what God is doing. For this reason, there are a lot of people who wonder, how does God work in us?

God works in us by honoring our faith with the disbursement of the various spiritual gifts defined in I Corinthians 12:4-10. It is through these various gifts of the spirit that God uses us to accomplish His will on the earth, which is to liberate humanity from the grips of death, hell, and the grave.

In Philippians 2:13 we read, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure”. God will work in us to the degree that we exhibit faith in Him and submit to His authority as I said above. With all things being equal there is no limit to what God can do when these disciplines are in place.
